SUMMARY
The committee met to discuss the candidate selection for the National Youth Commission. They are responsible for recommending five candidates for presidential appointment by June 29. The current Commission expires on 30 June 30 and legislation does not allow for their terms to be extended. The Sub-committee on Youth will be meeting over the next eight days to interview and select the candidates.

MINUTES
National Youth Commission candidate selection
The Chair, Ms Bogopane, stated the urgency in selecting candidates for the National Youth Commission. The term of the existing Commission expires on June 30, and legislation does not permit for any extension. The committee is responsible for recommending five candidates for presidential appointment by June 29.

The Chair proposed that the process of selecting the candidates be delegated to the sub-committee on Youth to ensure that the deadline was met. The sub-committee will be meeting from 22 - 29 June.

Concern was raised that the sub-committee consisted of 13 members, and as such, did not constitute a quorum. The Chair responded that a quorum was not necessary since all members would be updated on the selection process via e-mail or fax. Members felt it necessary to have a quorum to ensure that proper procedure was followed. It was agreed that Ms Sophia Maine would be added to the committee to form a quorum.

Sub-committees
The Committee made changes and clarified which members would sit on the various sub-committees. A finalised list is expected by the end of the week.
