COMMITTEE BUSINESS PLAN AND BUDGET: ADOPTION

Chairperson: Mr S Mayatula

Documents handed out:
Committee Business Plan and Budget for 2005/6
Committee Cost Centre Report (Awaited from clerk)

SUMMARY
In this brief 40-minute meeting, Members adopted their Committee Business Plan and Budget. The Education Laws Amendment Bill and the National Qualifications Framework Bill would be tabled in April and August 2005 respectively.

MINUTES
In this brief 40-minute meeting, Members adopted their Committee Business Plan and Budget for 2005/6. They left the proviso that the accommodation budget for public hearings be doubled and that some R5 000 be added to the budget for hosting foreign delegations. The motivation for doubling the accommodation budget was to increase access to public hearings. The amount budgeted for transport to public hearings was not increased because the Committee agreed that if necessary, people could travel by bus instead of air. The Chair had been embarrassed because he had been unable to reciprocate when foreign delegations presented the Committee with a gift.

The Chair drew Members' attention to a letter from the Director-General of Education, confirming that the Education Laws Amendment Bill and the National Qualifications Framework Bill were being drafted and would be tabled respectively in April and August 2005.

The meeting was adjourned.
