Meeting report
Opening comments
The Chairperson greeted everyone and apologised for the late notice of the meeting. However, this was a necessary meeting to consider the programme for the first term of 2025. She said she wished to be concise, and thanked everyone for their attendance. She asked the Committee Secretariat to take Members through the programme for next year, after flighting it on the screen.
The Committee Secretariat took the Committee through the programme, he read from the screen.
Discussion
The Chairperson called for input on what was presented; could the Members advise on the Kenyan delegation? She requested that technical issues be noted.
Mr P Noe (ANC, Free State) appreciated the work done by the support staff. He asked whether the Programming Committee had yet met, and received the Committee’s programme. Could they anticipate any changes? He would have preferred that the Secretariat send the relevant documentation to the Committee prior to the meeting - would they still have an opportunity to engage further on the programme even after receiving the documents late? He supported the proposed programme.
Adv I Nonkanyana (ANC, Eastern Cape) appreciated the programme. He was glad to see an approved draft of the programme. He reminded all that some Members of the Committee were part of the management committee. He met with the staff to ensure there were no clashes in the programme. He approved of the programme and looked forward to the other views of the Members.
Mr M Billy (DA, Kwa-Zulu Natal) commented on the Kenyan delegation - they should all make a decision on how to proceed on this issue. Perhaps this could be a multiparty delegation. He suggested they engage with their counterparts from Kenya.
The Chairperson echoed her colleagues’ comments and suggestions. She said they should meet the delegation as a full Committee, this should change if there was a dispute. They should raise this as an option.
Closing
The Chairperson appreciated everyone’s participation, noting changes can be made as they progress.
The meeting was adjourned.
