Committee Report on Department Budget

SUMMARY

The Committee adopted its report on the Department budget as of 22 June 2004. Mr L Tsenoli was elected as the Chairperson of the Porfolio Committee after Ms M Njobe finished her term as the Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee.

MINUTES
Mr K Moonsamy (ANC) commented that the report had captured the discussion well, but there were typographical errors. Ms D Barnard-Kohler (DA) commended the Secretary for her work on the structure.

A discussion ensued around whether comments should be raised at the end of the report, while others wanted comments to be raised after every item.

Mr Greying suggested that various stakeholders be called by the incoming Committee to clarify some issues. The Chairperson agreed. The report was then adopted. Mr Sonto commented that it was rare for opposition parties to propose a motion, as in this case had Ms D Barnard-Kohler (DA).

Chairperson proposed the election of a new Chairperson for the next term. Mr K Moonsamy thanked the outgoing Chairperson for her diligence.

Mr H Maluleka nominated Mr L Tsenoli and Mr Matlala seconded this. Mr Tsenoli was then elected unanimously and sworn in.

The meeting was adjourned.
