Committee Report on Department Budget
SUMMARY
Members were presented with a Report on the Budget Vote 17 and its adoption was proposed and seconded. The meeting was very brief due to a venue clash with another meeting.
MINUTES
The Chairperson highlighted key aspects of the report, commented on the various presentations (particularly that of NEDLAC), and stressed the general recommendations. These included that the Parliamentary Constituency Offices (PCOs) should be used as a marketing resource by the various organisations that had briefed the Committee, and that interactions should not only occur on the basis of Committee invitation. There should be far greater interaction and a list of contact details should be provided to Members. He emphasised the need for such interactions at provincial level.
Mr S Rasmeni (ANC) commented that the recommendations were good, but said the need for greater interaction needed to be emphasised and further interactions initiated.
Mr L Maduma (ANC) stressed that NEDLAC stakeholders had broad constituencies behind them. A mechanism had to be found to bring constituencies on board, and the Committee should follow up on this.
Mr S Rasmeni (ANC) proposed the adoption of this report, and Ms S. Rajbally (Minority Front) seconded.
Mr Manie commended the Committee Secretary on her concise and well-structured report. At this point, some Members arrived late and Mr Manie informed them of the proceedings thus far. The report's adoption was once again proposed by Mr Rasmeni, and seconded by Ms Rajbally. The report was officially adopted.
The meeting was adjourned.
