Meeting report

ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AND TOURISM AD HOC COMMITTEE
17 June 2004
DEPARTMENT BUDGET: BRIEFING

Chairperson:
Ms E Thabetha (ANC)

Documents handed out:
Committee Report on Department of Tourism budget

SUMMARY
The Committee was satisfied that the Report was a fair reflection of their discussions, and had nothing to add, so the Report was adopted. The Chair asked that the Department representatives provide input on their upcoming legislative programme in the next meeting on Tuesday 22 June.

MINUTES
The Chairperson welcomed the representatives from the Department of Tourism. She noted that the meeting would be brief since they only needed to vote on the Budget Vote Report (which had been earlier circulated to Members earlier).

Ms Pam Yako (Chief Operations Officer: Department of Tourism) introduced her collegues, Mr Tom Bouwer (Chief Financial Officer) and Mr Mahendra Naidoo (Acting Deputy Director-General), and tendered apologies for the absence of the Department Director-General.

Discussion
Mr M Ellis (DA) felt the Report was slim but was confident that it was a fair reflection of what had transpired at previous meetings, and did not require additions. Ms C Johnson (NNP) concurred.

Mr M Moss (ANC) and Mr Greyling (ID) thought that the Report indicated that the Committee had reached consensus on the issues.

The Chairperson agreed, and in the absence of further comments, declared the official adoption of the Report. She reminded Members to reconvene next Tuesday, 22 June 2004, for a meeting on procedural matters. She asked that the Department provide input on their upcoming legislative programme at that meeting.

The meeting was adjourned.
