Tabled Committee Reports

The Committee convened to adopt its Committee Report on the Information Regulator Appointment. The interviews of the shortlisted candidates had taken place the day before.

The Committee Report resolved that the National Assembly recommends that the following candidates be appointed to the Information Regulator:
Adv. Pansy Tlakula as the Chairperson
Adv. Lebogang Stroom-Nzama as an ordinary member in a full-time capacity.
Adv. Johannes Collen Weapond as an ordinary member in a full-time capacity.
Mr. Mfana Gwala as an ordinary member in a part-time capacity.
The Committee report received majority support 

Meeting report

The Chairperson indicated that a quorum had been constituted and the meeting may proceed.

The Chairperson instructed the Committee Secretariat to flight the draft report on the screen.

The Committee considered the report.

A brief discussion ensued about a minor grammatical correction.

The Committee adopted the report with majority support.

Ms G Breytenbach (DA) noted the Democratic Alliance reserved its vote until the plenary.

The Chairperson informed the Committee that the report would be sent to the House. The Chairperson thanked Parliament’s researchers and the secretariat for their stellar work. He expressed his gratitude for the work of researchers and the secretariat for assisting the Committee in meet the deadline given to the National Assembly for recommending to the President the Information Regulator who plays an important role in ensuring protection of people’s personal information.

The Chairperson noted that he had already requested the House Chairperson that this recommendation must be adopted by the National Assembly on Tuesday 23 November 2021. He asked Members to ensure their attendance as they would need a quorum in the House.
