SELECT COMMITTEE ON LAND AND ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS
22 JANUARY 2003 CONSIDERATION OF THE ANNUAL REPORT 2002.AND DISCUSSION OF STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION.

MINUTES
Consideration of the Committee's Annual Report for 2002:
Members expressed their satisfaction with the draft report, but suggested certain changes, including:
The Mission of the Committee should be restated.
Some of the objectives of the Committee should be spelt out.
Parties not found on the Committee should not be listed.
It should simply be stated that no sub-committees had been formed.
Provincial briefings in the provinces by permanent delegates should be mentioned.
A Minister and a Deputy Minister had appeared before the Committee.
Delegations on provincial and international study tours should be listed.
The Committee Secretary undertook to make the relevant amendments and the report would then be adopted.
Strategic Planning:
The date of the strategic planning session was set for 4 - 5 February 2003. The Committee Secretary was tasked with finding relatively inexpensive conference facilities.
It was stated that during 2003, the Committee should look at aspects of hunger and poverty, and find out as to why some unworked land was not being utilized for food production.
There should be a follow up on the question of increasing aquaculture in the country.
There should be a follow up on the recommendations of the Malaysian Study Tour Report.
General:
It was strongly advised that the Committee Secretary should get members to sign the attendance register.
Conclusion:
The Chairperson thanked members for their attendance and adjourned the meeting at 16:00.
