The first week, 25 August 1999 until 8 September 1999, deals with telecommunication issues. The closing date for the SABC board nominations, is 7 October 1999, and interviews will be conducted from 1- 5 November 1999. This programme provides for recess, which takes place from 24 September -15 October 1999, as well as for the Constituency Week, which is from 8 November- 12 November 1999. After the recess, there will be public hearings on the IBA / SATRA merger. Public hearings and reports, on the Telecommunications Amendment Bill, will take place during the 2 weeks after constituency week.

A DP committee member asked the chairperson if the committee could be briefed on the 'e-commerce debate'. The Minister said they would find a slot for this briefing.

A committee member wanted to know the procedure with regard to the interviews of the SABC board. The chairperson replied that this committee would do the interviews. The National Assembly advises and recommends to the president with regard to the election of the board members.

As there were no further questions, the committee members adopted this programme with no objections.
