Department of Small Business Development 2020/21 Annual Performance Plan; with Deputy Minister

Opening and Welcome

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Small Business Development, Ms V Siwela (ANC), declared the meeting open and welcomed everyone present. The Chairperson noted the apology from the Minister for Small Business Development, and acknowledged the presence of the Department of Small Business Development led by Deputy Minister Capa.

She indicated that the purpose of the meeting was to receive a briefing by the Department of Small Business Development on Budget Vote 36 and Annual Performance Plans.

Mr M Rayi, Chairperson of the Select Committee on Trade and Industry, Economic Development, Small Business Development, Tourism, Employment and Labour, indicated that correspondence had been received from the Minister for Small Business Development noting that whilst the Strategic Plan and Annual Performance Plan had been tabled as per parliamentary requirements, it should be noted that due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, these plans would have to be fundamentally reviewed. This process has already commenced and upon review of the revised budget from the Minister of Finance this would be tabled to Parliament.

Briefing by the Department of Small Business Development on Budget Vote 36 and Annual Performance Plans

The Portfolio and Select Committees proceeded to receive a briefing from the Department of Small Business Development. Budget vote reports will be compiled by the secretariats of the respective Committees to provide comprehensive reports on the Committees engagement with these entities. Thereafter, the respective committees will consider the reports.   

Having concluded the business for the day, the meeting adjourned at 17:23.
