Consideration and Adoption of Committee Reports for the AR 2018/2019 Department of Local Government

The Chairperson opened the meeting and welcomed Members.
Consideration and adoption of the Draft Committee Report on the Annual Report of the Department of Local Government for the 2018/19 financial year
The Chairperson submitted the Draft Committee Report on the Annual Report of the Department of Local Government which was considered and adopted with the following amendment:

On page two, paragraph three, to mot “28 November 2019” and substitute with 31 January 2020”

Invitation to the United Cities and Local Government Congress World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders
The Chairperson informed the Committee that he, in his capacity as Chairperson, received an invitation to the United Cities and Local Government Congress World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders. He informed the Committee that he had discussed the matter with the Speaker and Chief Whip and will attend the Congress from 11 – 15 November 2019 and the cost for the Congress would be paid from the budget of the Standing Committee.

The Committee agreed.

Cluster visit
The Chairperson highlighted that during the previous meeting a need was expressed to conduct an oversight visit but no formal decision was taken.

In light of ongoing drought in the Central Karoo region, the Chairperson suggested the Committee, Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works, Standing Committee on Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning and the Standing Committee on Human Settlements schedule oversight visits to the Central Karoo and Klein Karoo regions and meet with the local municipalities on drought and other related issues.

The Committee deliberated.

Resolutions
The Committee RESOLVED that a Cluster visit be conducted from 3 – 7 February 2020 to Lainsburg, Beaufort West, Prince Albert, Oudtshoorn and Kannaland municipalities.
