Establishment of the sub-committee to deal with the filling vacancies in NYDA

Meeting report

The Chairperson opened the meeting and welcomed everyone present.

Ms Tasneem Matthews, Researcher: Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and People with Disabilities, said that the role of the subcommittee would be to recruit and recommend seven individuals to sit on the Board of the National Youth Development Agency. She outlined the desired capabilities of Board Members and requested that Members be mindful of these when recruiting.

Ms Kashiefa Abrahams, Content Advisor: Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and People with Disabilities, said that the subcommittee would need to set up a follow-up meeting in order to consider the Draft Advertisement as well as the Draft Programme that would indicate how long the entire process would take.

She said the proposed date of the advertisement would be from the close of Parliament until 24 January 2020. The shortlisted CVs would be collated by the Secretariat and put on Parliament’s website so that civil society can provide comment.

Nominations for the subcommittee: NCOP

Ms M Maleka (ANC), Mpumalanga), submitted the following as the nominees by the National Council Of Provinces: Mr M Bara (DA, Gauteng), Ms S Luthuli (EFF, Kwa Zulu Natal), Mr M Nchabeleng (ANC, Limpopo), Ms M Gillion (ANC, Western Cape) and Ms M Maleka (ANC, Mpumalanga).

Nominations for the subcommittee: National Assembly

Ms T Mgweba (ANC), submitted the following as the nominees by the National Assembly: Ms N Ncube (also known as C Ndaba) (ANC), Ms F Masiko (ANC), Ms B Maluleka (ANC), Ms T Mgweba (ANC), Mr L Mpithi (DA), Ms M Khawula (EFF).

Mr Bara moved for the approval of the names to form the subcommittee, Ms T Masondo (ANC) approved.

The Chairperson said that the work of the subcommittee is very important and will be determined by how determined Members are. She thanked everyone and the meeting was adjourned.
