The Select Committees on Appropriations and Finance met to continue its induction workshop started in the previous week. The induction today concerned the NCOP Rules that govern the work of Committees and an analysis of sector matters

Members asked clarity-seeking questions and deliberated on broader matters such as the role of the National Council of Provinces versus that of the National Assembly and the need to do things differently in order to change people’s lives for the better.

The Co-Chairperson welcomed everyone present and indicated the purpose of this meeting was to continue with the induction workshop that started the previous week.

Presentations

The Committee Secretary of the Select Committee on Appropriations proceeded to make a presentation to the Committees on the NCOP Rules that govern the work of Committees

The Content Adviser of the Select Committee on Finance proceeded to make a presentation to the Committees on an analysis of sector matters.

Discussion

Members asked clarity-seeking questions and deliberated on broader matters such as the role of the National Council of Provinces versus that of the National Assembly and the need to do things differently in order to change people’s lives for the better.

Closing remarks by Co-Chairperson

The Co-Chairperson thanked everyone for their attendance and participation and indicated the rest of the planned presentations would be heard the following week when the induction workshop would continue.

The Co-Chairperson further reminded Members the Select Committee on Appropriations would be considering the Appropriation Bill [B6-2019] the following day. She requested parties to consult on whether the Bill should be dealt with by way of debate or statements during the NCOP plenary on 30 July 2019.
