Meeting Summary
The Committee noted that all municipalities had been called to a housing policy workshop on 20 April to address matters around interpretation of the policy.
The Committee also decided that it needed to be briefed by the Department of Human Settlements on its program to extend the airport precinct area. The concern was that communities around the precinct would be affected by such expansion. Communities were alarmed because they were not communicated to by the Department. The Committee also needed to be briefed on research commissioned on informal settlements around Cape Town. The briefing is scheduled for 17 April, 14h00.

Further Remarks
The Chairperson highlighted all municipalities were called to an all-day housing policy workshop on 20 April because there were issues around interpretation of policy. Municipalities would bring their housing policies to the workshop for discussion.
Mr N Hinana (DA) brought to the attention of the Committee that the Department of Human Settlements had a programme to expand the airport precinct area and informal settlement areas surrounding the airport would be affected. The Committee needed to be briefed on the plans. There were serious concerns by communities on the lack of information on the expansion plans as previously there were disagreements with people living in that area. Communities said that were they to be relocated - they needed to know where and how that would happen, hence the need for a briefing.
The Chairperson agreed that the Committee needed to be briefed and added that it also needed to be briefed on research commissioned on informal settlements around Cape Town so that these findings could be aligned to the airport expansion plans. The briefing would be scheduled for 17 April at 14h00.
