Outstanding Committee Minutes

13 June 2017 Minutes: Deliberations on the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Market Inquiry outcomes

The Chairperson took the Members through the document, page by page.

Members made minor changes to the document.

Ms C Matsimbi (ANC) moved for the adoption of the minutes.

Mr P Atkinson (DA) seconded the move.

The minutes were adopted with minor amendments.

28 June 2017 Minutes: Briefings by the Portfolio Committees of Health and Trade and Industry on pharmaceuticals, and response to oversight visit to Aspen in the Eastern Cape

The Chairperson took the Members through the document, page by page.

Mr M Cele (ANC) moved for the adoption of the minutes.

Ms Matsimbi seconded the move.

The Chairperson proposed there should be collaborations with other committees and departments, especially Health and DTI.

The minutes were adopted with no amendments.

22 August 2017 Minutes: Briefing by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Enterprise Creation and Industrial Development

The Chairperson took the Members through the document, page by page.

Mr A Pikinini (ANC) moved for the adoption of the minutes.

Mr S Tleane (ANC) seconded the move.

The minutes were adopted with minor amendments.

The Committee agreed that the CSIR should intensify its awareness campaign to reach rural areas and expose its services to developing entrepreneurs and continue to work closer with the IDC and other funding agencies. 

The Chairperson urged Members to visit the CSIR centre in order to assist their constituencies.

The Committee also agreed it is going to consider joint sessions with the portfolio committees of agriculture, rural development, and science and technology to discuss the support the CSIR should give to entrepreneurs in these fields.

It further agreed it would continue debating about the possibility of creating a new SA car for the sake of identity just like other countries.

5 September 2017 Minutes: Quarter 4 of the Department 2016/17 and 2017/18

The Chairperson took the Members through the document, page by page.

Ms Matsimbi proposed for the adoption of minutes.

Mr A Tleane seconded the proposal.

The minutes were adopted with no amendments.

The Committee indicated it is going to make a follow-up with the Department to get a report on the creation of jobs in the sector. Further, it sought collaboration between the Competition Commission and ICASA on the data enquiry. It said it would ask the Portfolio Committee on Telecommunications and Postal Services to facilitate the dialogue.

3 October 2017 Minutes: Briefing by the Department of Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME), Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) and the Public Service Commission (PSC) on the annual performance of the Economic Development Department and its entities for 2017/18

Mr Tleane proposed for the adoption of the minutes.

Mr Cele seconded the proposal.

The minutes were adopted with no amendments.

4 October 2017 Minutes: Briefing by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) on their 2016/17 annual reports

The Chairperson took the Members through the document, page by page.

Mr Pikinini moved for the adoption of minutes.

Mr Cele seconded the motion.

The minutes were adopted with minor amendments.

The Chairperson asked the Committee to do a follow-up on progress reports on Foskor, Scaw and UIC. She further asked it to do a follow-up on the Black Industrialist programme.

10 October 2017 Minutes: Briefing by the Economic Development Department (EDD), Competition Commission and Competition Tribunal on their 2016/17 annual reports

The Chairperson took the Members through the document, page by page.

Mr Pikinini moved for the adoption of minutes.

Mr Atkinson seconded the proposal.

The minutes were adopted with minor amendments.

The Chairperson asked the Committee to make a follow-up on the skills shortage report in the country and the ArcelorMittal R4 billion fine. She said the Committee must request the Chairperson of the Competition Tribunal to brief the Committee on the Standard Bank matter.
