Land Bank board: finalisation of nominations

Candidates to serve on the Board of the Land Bank

Mr Z Mandela (ANC) proposed the following names: 

• Dr Gilingwe Peter Mayende
• Mr Gcinuhlanga Charity Madasa
• Ms Gwen Boitumelo Mahuma

He said his nominations were informed by academic qualifications and work experience.

Ms A Steyn (DA) supported Mr Mandela’s proposal, saying those candidates possess the requisite skills needed in going forward.

Mr R Cebekhulu (IFP) supported the proposed names from Mr Mandela.

Mr N Capa (ANC) proposed the name of Mr Raymond Nyaniso Ngqeleni.

Mr M Filtane (UDM) supported the nomination of Mr Ngqeleni, and he further nominated Ms Fezeka Mqwathi. He said both candidates had the relevant experience in public institutions, handling of finances, and had worked with agricultural related institutions. He felt Dr Mayende was too much of an academic.

Ms Z Jongbloed (DA) agreed with Mr Filtane about Dr Mayende. She suggested:

• Mr Gcinuhlanga Madasa
• Ms Fezeka Maqwathi
• Ms Gwen Mahuma

Ms T Gasebonwa-Tongwane (ANC) supported the nominations from Mr Mandela.

The Chairperson indicated the names Mr Mandela put forward got the majority votes.

Mr Filtane proposed that a 4th candidate be nominated in case of a shortfall, and he suggested the name of Mr Raymond Ngqeleni.

Mr Mandela proposed the idea to be put on the floor, and he suggested the name of Ms Fezeka Maqwathi.

The name of Ms Fezeka Maqwathi got the nod on the basis of gender. The Committee then agreed on the 4 names in the following order:

     6. Mr Gcinuhlanga Charity Madasa
     7. Ms Gwen Boitumelo Mahuma
     8. Ms Fezeka Maqwathi

Committee Report
The Committee Secretary read Members the report for submission to nominate candidates to the Board of Land Bank.

Mr Filtane moved for the adoption of the report.

Mr Cebekhulu seconded the motion.
