ANNUAL REPORT: DISCUSSION

SUMMARY
The Committee considered its 2001 and 2002 annual reports. The 2001 report was adopted since it has already been published, while the 2002 report was deferred in order to allow Members an opportunity to go through its content.

MINUTES
The Chairperson informed the Members that the annual reports of the Portfolio Committee, especially the report of 2002, have been accepted as the model to be followed by other parliamentary Committees. It was therefore left to the Committee to adopt it.

2001 Annual Report
The Chairperson told the Members that this report has already been published and therefore it would not be feasible to effect any changes to it.

The Committee unanimously adopted the report, based on the fact that it can not be changed.

2002 Annual Report
The Chairperson told the Members that they can effect any changes to the report, provided that did not alter any facts presented in the report.

The Committee noted that this report has assumed a new format and as such Members wanted an opportunity to interact with its content, especially with regard to attendance.

The Chairperson noted that in principle the Committee accepted the report, although the formal adoption of the report would only took place the following day. He further noted that the Committee's task has seriously mounted and it requires the services of a full-time researcher. This would be included in its report to the Speaker.
