Mr E Makue (ANC, Gauteng) was elected Chairperson of the Select Committee on Trade and International Relations.  In his opening remarks, he highlighted the importance of working closely with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), as well as tourism and its value in job creation.

Election of Chairperson

The Committee Secretary explained the procedure of electing the chairperson.  Mr S Mthimunye (ANC, Mpumalanga) proposed Mr E Makue (ANC, Gauteng), Mr B Nthebe (ANC, North West) seconded the proposal and Mr Makue accepted the nomination.  There were no further nominations and Mr Makue was elected.

Opening Remarks

The Chairperson thanked everyone and said all Committee members were there with the common purpose of serving the interests of the country.  The Committee recognised the importance of its responsibilities and the meetings should be used to contribute constructively and to work closely with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The importance of tourism to the expansion of the economy and job creation would form a big part of the responsibilities of the Committee.

Committee members echoed the sentiments of the Chairperson and said the members would work well together to better each of the represented provinces.
