Election of Chairperson

Ms Marcelle Williams, Committee Secretary, said that the Committee should elect a Chairperson of the Committee in terms of rules of Parliament. She called for nominations for the position of the Chairperson of the Select Committee on Social Services.

Ms L Zwane (ANC) nominated Ms L Dlamini to be the Chairperson of the Select Committee on Social Services.

Mr D Stock (ANC) seconded the nomination.

There were no other nominations and Ms Dlamini was duly elected as the Chairperson of the Select Committee on Social Services.

Opening Remarks by Chairperson

The Chairperson thanked her organisation for having confidence in her. She also thanked the Members of the Select Committee for electing her and looked forward to having a very good cordial relationship with all the Members of the Committee going forward.

The Chairperson said that her background was in administration and highlighted that she had experience in both politics and administration at all levels. She further mentioned that she was very strong in monitoring and evaluation and this would be relevant for the Committee given its oversight mandate. Lastly, she said that the expertise she and the Members of the Committee were bringing would make them whole and complete in terms of their work.

The Chairperson thanked all Members of the Committee and was looking forward in working with them.
