Meeting Summary

The Committee on the Auditor-General met briefly to elect a Chairperson. The election was presided over by the Committee Secretary and Mr V Smith (ANC) was elected unopposed. The incoming Chairperson thanked Members for choosing him and indicated that the Committee should ask the Auditor-General to brief the Committee on the strategic plan of his Office for the 2014/15 financial year. Thereafter, the Committee would be able to draw up its own programme.

Election of the Chairperson
Mr Johnny Ramrock, Committee Secretary, said that in terms of Rule 129 of the National Assembly Rules, the Committee must elect one of its members as a Chairperson of the Committee.

Mr Ramrock called for nominations for the position of Chairperson of the Committee on Auditor-General.

Ms Z Dlamini-Dubazana (ANC) nominated Mr V Smith (ANC) to be the Chairperson of the Committee.

Ms S Shope-Sithole (ANC) seconded the nomination.

Mr Smith was duly elected as the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on the Auditor-General.

Opening Remarks
The Chairperson thanked the Committee for electing him to the position. He said that the Committee should ask the Auditor-General to brief the Committee on the strategic plan of his Office for the 2014/15 financial year. Thereafter, the Committee would be able to draw up its own programme. He advised that the Committee should not meet on Fridays but rather look for an alternative day. Members could make suggestions to the Committee Secretary. The Committee Secretary would inform Members with regard to the next meeting, which would take place after the Committee Secretary had communicated with the Office of the Auditor-General.
