Finalisation of candidates to serve on the Central Drug Authority Board

Meeting report

The Chairperson explained that the Joint Committee had conducted interviews of candidates to serve on the Central Drug Authority Board (CDA) Board as stipulated by the Drugs and Drugs Trafficking Act No. 140 of 1992. The Act made provision for Parliament to shortlist candidates and recommend 12 names to the Minister of Social Development. She then invited Members to forward their scores for all the interviewed candidates and informed her colleagues that Ms N Gcume (COPE) had forwarded her scores.

The Chairperson raised her concerns regarding the gender balance of the shortlisted candidates.

After a brief discussion the Committee agreed to a number of seven males and five females.

The Joint Committee recommended to the Minister of Social Development that the following people serve on the Central Drug Authority Board:
