Meeting Summary

The Committee was scheduled to consider and finalise the Judicial Code of Conduct. However, the meeting was postponed to 21 August due to the lack of quorum. The Chairperson expressed disappointment that Members had failed to attend the meeting and indicated that this matter would be addressed with the Chief Whip.

Meeting report

The Chairperson expressed his disappointment at Members for failing to attend committee meetings and coming late for meetings. It was a concern that some Members spent money to attend the meetings while others failed to take the meetings importantly. Parliament was under attack because Members were accused of not taking their duties seriously.

The Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces was expecting that the Committee was going to consider and finalise the report at the sitting of the 14 August but there was nothing the members present could do as they did not constitute a quorum.

The Chairperson asked the committee secretary to write a letter to the Chief Whip stating the attendance and times of arrival of members. The matter needed to be dealt with seriously.

The next meeting for the consideration and adoption of the Code was scheduled for 21 August.

The meeting was adjourned.
