SUMMARY
Mr Ntsika Mashimbye was unanimously elected as the new Chairperson of the committee. The programme of the day was postponed until further notice.

MINUTES
One member of the committee nominated Mr Ntsika Mashimbye for the new Chairperson position. The nomination was seconded by four other members. There were no further nominations and Mr Mashimbye was unanimously elected the new Chairperson of the committee. Seventeen committee members were present during the election.

Mr. Mashimbye (former Chairperson of the portfolio committee on defence) expressed his "humble gratitude and honour" of being elected as an indication of the committee's faith in him. He hoped for a co-operative and mutual learning relationship with the committee. He noted that he knew everyone except Mr Swart who later introduced himself and congratulated the new Chairperson. Mr Ferreira congratulated the new Chairperson too.

Mr Mashimbye suggested that the committee postponed the day's programme until further notice during the course of the week. The proposal was seconded by one member and agreed by the committee.

The meeting was adjourned.
