Meeting Summary

The meeting was adjourned on account of the inability of the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and delegates from the Department and Members of the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs to attend.

Meeting report

The Departments of Labour and Home Affairs were to give a joint briefing to Members on the presence of foreign nationals within the South African labour market.

Apologies were received from Mr I Ollis (DA) and Mr W Madisha (COPE).

Members of the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs and the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and delegates from the Department had apologised for their inability to attend what had been intended as a joint meeting of the two Portfolio Committees and had requested that the meeting be rescheduled.

The Chairperson therefore thought that little was to be gained from proceeding with the meeting. However, he asked the Department of Labour if it had anything to say before he adjourned the meeting.

Mr Les Kettledas, Deputy Director-General: Labour Policy and Labour Market Programmes, Department of Labour, said that the participation of the Department of Home Affairs was essential to the agenda.

The meeting was adjourned. No date was set for joint briefing.
