SUMMARY
During this round of interviews the Committee interviewed:
- Mr Humphrey Birkenstock;
- Mr Andries Botha;
- Mr Rashaad Carlsen;
- Bishop Dr Peter Coetzee;
- Ms Nadia Bulbulia;
- Mr Lumko Mtimde; and
- Mr Kenneth Herold.
MINUTES
During this round of interviews the candidates were asked to explain:
- what makes him/her the best person for position as ICASA councillor;
- the changes s/he would make to improve the functioning of ICASA;
- how s/he fits into the requirements specified in Section 5 of the ICASA Act;
- whether s/he has or is likely to have any conflict of interests should s/he be appointed;
- experience in both the broadcast and telecommunications fields;
- whether s/he would be able to adjust to the highly pressurised period at ICASA, during which
several very important issues are currently being dealt with;
- their position on various debated (technical) issues in the Telecommunications and Broadcast
Acts, as well as recent Constitutional Court cases and issues such as freedom of expression
and religion;
- measures to be taken to improve the recognition and exposure of indigenous African languages
in the media;
- the role of government in an independent body such as ICASA;
- their strengths and weaknesses; and
- what s/he perceives to be the key challenges presently facing ICASA.

- Dr Gomolemo Mokae;
- Mthobeli Zokwe;
- Ms Thembelihle Msibi;
- Limakatso Nobanda; and
- Dr Sadhasivan Perumal
