LOCAL AND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE

MUNICIPAL STRUCTURES AMENDMENT BILL: VOTING

Relevant Documents:
Local Government: Municipal Structures Amendment Bill [B51B-2000]

SUMMARY
This meeting was a formal vote on the two most recent amendments to the Municipal Structures Amendment Bill; specifically, clauses 11 and 15. The amendments were agreed to unanimously and formally adopted.

MINUTES
Mr Louw, the lawyer from the Department, explained the significance of the proposed amendments to clauses 11 and 15. The clause 11 amendment will allow a municipality to impose and claim regional service levies. The clause 15 amendment will allow a municipality a more detailed approach to its staff, assets and liabilities. Both amendments had been originally part of the Bill but had been overlooked in the pressure of getting the final draft of the Bill ready. As this was an unintentional omission - they are only technical amendments.

Mr Ntshangase (ANC) moved for the adoption of the amendments.

Chief Mtirara (UDM) seconded the motion.

The Chair, Mr Solo, read the Motion of Desirability.

Mr Lyle (ANC) moved for the Motion

Mr Beukman (NNP) seconded the motion.
