Meeting report

The Minister of State Security was due to meet with the Committee today but the meeting was cancelled. The following media statement was issued. [According to the Committee Secretary, the next committee meeting will be in three weeks' time in the week of 30 August - 3 September] MEDIA STATEMENT: PUBLIC HEARINGS ON THE PROTECTION OF INFORMATION BILL 12 August 2010 The Ministry of State Security has been following the process of the public hearings on the Protection of Information Bill with a keen interest. Various submissions and presentations were made to the Adhoc Committee, by members of society, media and interested organizations. The Minister, Dr Siyabonga Cwele, views these submissions seriously and requires sufficient time to consider them comprehensively. This has necessitated a request for postponement of the interaction with the Adhoc Committee, originally scheduled for Friday, 13 August 2010. The Minister looks forward to a deeper level of discourse on this very important piece of legislation by all sections of our society. Issued by: Ministry of State Security.
