Opening Remarks
The Chairperson noted that in terms of the agenda, the Committee was supposed to deal with two items- consider two outstanding minutes as well as plan for its oversight visit to

The Chairperson tabled two sets of minutes for consideration. These minutes were dated 11 May and 18 May 2010.
The former was approved with minor amendments while the latter was adopted without any changes.
Other Matters
Mr C Kekana (ANC) enquired whether the Department of Public Works had appointed a Director-General as (DG) as yet, recalling that the Minisiter had previously indicated that this had been the case. He also expressed concern about the vacancy rate in the Department.
The Chairperson replied that the selection process for the appointment of a new DG had been concluded and that the name of the preferred candidate was referred to Cabinet for approval. In addition, he stated that the high vacancy rate was a matter of concern, which needed urgent attention.
Ms L Jacobus (ANC) sought clarity about the parliamentary programme as there were conflicting views that Parliament would either be closing the following week or the week thereafter.
The Chairperson replied that Parliament would not go into recess next week.
The Chairperson informed Members that he had attended a media road show with the Ministers of Public Works and Social Development. The Isibindi programme was very touching in its nature and the Department should be encouraged to participate in such programmes.
