Meeting Summary

The Committee met to consider and adopt the Report on the strategic plan and vote of the Department of Public Works and entities. Members made a few amendments before approving the Report and agreed to prioritise the processing of the Council for Built Environment Bill. The outstanding minutes from 3 previous meetings were also approved.

Consideration and Adoption of Report on strategic plan and vote of Department of Public Works and entities
The Chairperson tabled the Report and asked whether Members wanted to make any amendments to it.

Members were generally happy with the Report and decided to focus on the Recommendations.

The members were happy with the report but what is missing in the report, is the youth participation was missed out.

Ms N Madlala (ANC) and Mr P Mnguni (COPE) were not happy with second recommendation and felt that it should be removed. T

A Member expressed highlighted that certain institutions fell under the jurisdiction of more than one department.

Ms L Jacobus (ANC) asked when the Council for Built Environment Bill (CBE Bill) would be brought back and finalized. This should be given priority as it affected the careers of young people.

The Committee agreed that this should be given priority.

The Report was adopted with amendments.

Adoption of Outstanding Minutes
The Chairperson tabled 3 outstanding minutes for consideration. These were dated 16, 23 and 24 February 2010. All were approved without any changes.
