Meeting report

Consideration of 2009 Annual Report and 2010 First Term Committee Programme
Mr Mofokeng noted that Members had not had time to peruse the Annual Report. He stated that the Committee would have to adopt the Report at the next meeting.

He asked if Members wanted to make any amendments to the First-Term Committee Programme. He asked Members to note that there were certain oversight visits that had to include both Committees. Members had to indicate to the Committee Secretaries where they would prefer to go in terms of oversight visits.

Mr A Watson (DA; Mpumalanga) noted that the programme put a lot of emphasis on the State of the Province Addresses. The Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs had a lot of work to do. A proposal was made at a previous meeting that Members from the Security and Constitutional Development Select Committee should be excused from visiting the provinces. He fully endorsed the suggestion as local government and service delivery was of the utmost importance.

The Chairperson stated that the Committee seemed to agree with Mr Watson.

Mr A Matila (ANC; Gauteng) moved for the adoption of the Programme.

Mr Mokgobi seconded the adoption.

The programme was adopted.

Other Committee Matters
Mr Mofokeng stated that there was a list with names of candidates who were going to serve on the National Council on Correctional Services (NCCS). He read out the names and the Committee agreed with the candidates that were chosen to sit on the Council.

Mr Mofokeng informed the Committee that a delegation from Finland would be visiting certain Committees in Parliament. The delegation extended their invitation to Members from the Select Committees who would be available on the 15th and 16th February 2010.

Mr Watson stated that would like to meet the delegation from Finland, as he had made some “ties” there over the years. Members had to be told where they could meet the Finnish delegates.

The Chairperson stated that the Committee Secretary would follow up on the matter.

The meeting was adjourned.
