Meeting report

Adoption of Programme for the Strategic Planning Workshop
The Chairperson asked Members whether they were satisfied with the items that were included in the agenda for the strategic planning workshop

Ms D Robinson (DA) was pleased with the programme and noted that it covered a comprehensive list of issues

Ms H Malgas (ANC) advised the Committee to make certain that its strategic plans were in line with the ministry’s plans, objectives and aims.

Mr M Motimele (ANC) enquired whether the purpose of the workshop was to formulate the Committee’s own vision and aims. He added that the Committee’s plans should be linked with the objectives outlined in the State of the Nation Address.

The Chairperson responded that that the workshop was precisely for that purpose. The Committee could align its plans with whatever it wanted.

Mr D Kekana (ANC) suggested that the different sectors namely, women, youth, children and people with disability brief the Committee about the work that they do and their priorities going forward. These presentations could then be integrated into one strategic plan for the Committee

The Chairperson stated that Members should be provided with a copy of the State of the Nation address so that they could compare whether the priorities listed therein were being advanced.

Ms Kashifa Abrahams, Researcher, Parliamentary Research Unit, indicated that the Unit had studied the State of the Nation Address, in particular those issues which impacted on women, youth, children and people with disabilities. The Unit could therefore brief the Committee about the priorities, gaps and solutions outlined in the speech.

The Chairperson briefly went through each agenda item and asked Members whether they agreed to it

Members were satisfied with the programme and adopted it without amendments.

The Chairperson said that the minutes of previous meetings could not be adopted as there were insufficient members to form a quorum. The adoption of the minutes would therefore be postponed to a later meeting.

The meeting was adjourned.
