International Relations

The Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation invites you to submit written comments on the Foreign Service Bill [B 35 – 2015].

The Bill seeks to regulate the working environment of officials working in South African embassies abroad (namely the Foreign Service). The circumstances and conditions for the Foreign Service are often vastly different and diverse from the policy context within the Public Service. These changes should bring the Foreign Service within the purview of South African legislation, while allowing the necessary flexibility to address the challenges posed by it operating at a global level.

The purpose of the Bill is to provide for:
• the management, administration and functioning of the Foreign Service of the Republic of South Africa;
• the operational requirements that are suitable and supportive of the operations of the Foreign Service in a global environment;

Comments can be emailed to Mr Lubabalo Sigwela at [email protected] or Mr Siphosezwe Masango at [email protected] by no later than Tuesday, 30 August 2016.

In addition to the written comments, please indicate your interest in making a verbal presentation.

Enquiries can be directed to Mr Lubabalo Sigwela on (021) 403 3808 or cell 083 709 8508
