Report of the Portfolio Committee on Police on a Petition from residents of Soshanguve South calling for the establishment of a Satellite Police Station: dated 6 November 2018

 

  1. BACKGROUND

 

  1. The Committee received a Petition from residents of Soshanguve South calling for the establishment of a satellite police station. The petition was tabled by Hon. D Bergman (DA MP) and referred to the Committee on 18 March 2015.

 

  1. PARTCIPATION OF PETITIONERS

2.2 The Hon. D Bergman presented the petition from Soshanguve to the Portfolio Committee.

 

  1. DEPARTMENT RESPONSES TO PETITIONS

 

  1. The Committee invited SAPS management to respond to the issued raised by the petitioners in its meeting of 7 July 2018.
  2. The SAPS promised to institute a work-study investigation to ascertain the feasibility of establishing a satellite Police Station in Soshanguve.

 

  1. COMMITTEE OBSERVATIONS

 

  1. The Committee noted the responses given by the Department with regard to the petition received. The Portfolio Committee resolved to continue with monitoring the implementation of the commitments made with regard to the petitions. SAPS management was requested to supply the relevant petitioners with feedback in terms of progress

 

  1. CONCLUSION

 

  1. The Portfolio Committee noted the responses of the SAPS and indicated that it will continue to monitor the implementation of the responses to the petitions.
